Please email Resume to: elvira@guidinghands.org PurposeThis position plays an important role in supporting HGH and its missions to improve the lives of individuals and families who have been diagnosed with an intellectual disability or developmental delays. The Staff Accountant assists the Assistant Coordinator of Financial Services and the Coordinator of Financial Services in the timely and accurate preparation of all financial statements, prepares bank and balance sheet account reconciliations, distributes periodic financial reports, and processes payroll checks, as needed. STANDARD REQUIREMENTS:

  • Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for: Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security, report and/or correct unsafe working conditions, equipment repair and maintenance needs.
  • Confidentiality of all data, including consumer, employee, and operations data.
  • Compliance with all regulatory requirements.
  • Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.
  • Supports and participates in common teamwork:
  • Cooperates and works together with all co-workers; plans and completes job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including appropriate judgment.
  • Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations.
  • Follows-up, as appropriate, with supervisor, co-workers, or consumers regarding reported complaints, problems, and concerns.
  • Promotes positive public relations with consumers, family members, guests, and government representatives.
  • Completes requirements for in-service training, acceptable attendance, dress codes, including personal hygiene, and other work duties as assigned.
  • Use computer software for documentation and communication ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Responsible for a variety of duties that include but are not limited to:
    • Preparation and data entry of various journal entries in Great Plains.
    • Prints and distributes final financial statements to internal management. Answers questions managers may have regarding reports. Distributes other internal financial reports to management.
    • Assembles and organizes all issued financial statements, trial balance reports, and general ledger reports.
    • Reconcile all corporate bank accounts.
    • Responsible for preparing other monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
    • Preparation and distribution of bi-weekly labor reports.
    • Responsible for maintaining and administrating information related to all agency credit cards, periodic audit of expenditures.
    • Reconcile all employee benefit accounts to their respective vendor invoices and payroll reports. Ensure agency deductions from employee payroll checks agree to insurance payments provided and any insurance payment errors are resolved.
    • Responsible for assisting all Accounting Technicians with problem solving and transaction corrections.
    • Assist with preparation and filing requirements of government agencies, i.e., United States Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, United States Housing and Urban Development (HUD), California State Board of Equalization, San Diego County, etc.
    • Assist in preparation of PBC (provided by client) work papers for annual audit(s) and tax return.
    • Must be familiar with the payroll process and able to assist with payroll duties in the absence of payroll staff members, including processing manual checks for terminated employees and corrections, as needed.

While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms. The employee requires dexterity in using telephone, computer keyboard, mouse and calculator while seated at a desk. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk and sit. The employee may frequently move to interact with fellow employees and/or clients. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. COMPETENCIES: Education: A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Business required. Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
          • Read, write and understand the English language.
          • Able to establish and maintain effective relationships with consumers, co-workers, neighbors, volunteers, vendors, and the general public.
          • Possess high degree of patience and the ability to tolerate frustrating situations.
            • Knowledge of HIPPA Guidelines and Patient Privacy required.
            • Able to multi-task and manage work time efficiently.
            • Able to see, talk, hear, walk, bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, and lift items weighing 30 pounds or less repeatedly during a shift.
            • Able to lawfully and safely drive an agency vehicle in all traffic situations and weather conditions. Experience: This position requires at least three years of work experience as an accountant in a computerized accounting office. Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. Great Plains accounting software experience preferred. Paycom payroll processing software experience preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required; as well as organizational skills and ability to prioritize to meet required deadlines. Other Conditions of Employment:
              • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of hire.
              • Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol test within 24 hours of a job offer.
              • Must pass a pre-employment health screening/TB Test; and annually thereafter.
              • Have a criminal records clearance from DHS and/or DSS (Live Scan fingerprinting).
              • Must possess a valid California driver's license, proof of safe driving record (current DMV report required), and have 24 months of licensed driving experience.
              • Must complete all other required new hire training.
              • Must maintain confidentiality of consumer Protected Health Information (PHI) used for treatment, payment, health care, etc. and personal information of consumers.
