Payroll Manager Job Purpose:

Coordinates and supervises payroll activities and staff

Payroll Manager Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ensures the efficiency of payroll cyclesby drafting, reviewing and revising written internal procedures, setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting payroll software issues, monitoring effectiveness and quality of service, providing information, updates and guidance to staff members as needed, and ensuring pay cycles are posted to appropriate team members, financial institutions and departments.
• Ensures payroll complianceby reconciling year end W-2's in software, making necessary corrections using year end off cycles, running pre-views and finalization to print W-2's for all companies. If necessary running various report audits, researching and correcting errors, comparing data to transmittals that are sent to reporting agencies, ensuring necessary deductions are electronically transmitted to appropriate agencies, ensuring accounts payable checks are requested from the appropriate personnel, and running payroll audit reports for gaming commission investigations.
• Maintains the software timesheets with needed updates as are necessary, setting up any new pay categories as needed, training department time and attendance users, and ensuring linkage of time and attendance data with payroll software data.
• Develops team membersby identifying training needs, providing instruction as needed, conducting performance appraisals, and providing counseling, guidance, and corrective action as needed. Makes termination decisions when necessary. Responsible for appropriately staffing the Payroll team including interviewing and making hiring decisions. Recommends personnel changes including but not limited to promotions/transfers.
• Assists Tribal payroll departmentby setting up appropriate payroll deductions, reports, and troubleshooting payroll software issues following established procedures.
• Provides payroll data for yearend 401K Employer Match by running all companies report audits, balancing these to the yearend payroll registers, making any necessary corrections and transmitting reports to third party vendors.
• Assists in the setup and maintenance of the vault tip reporting software for the tip pools and actual tips. Processes the imports for posting to the software timesheets.
• Processes other duties as requested for all companies. Payroll Manager Job Specifications:

  Essential:
  
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent experience
  • 5 years payroll experience
  • 5 years supervisory or managerial experience Desirable:
    
    • Payroll certificate
    • Tribal gaming supervisory experience Payroll Manager Skills and Knowledge:
      
      Essential:
      
      • Advanced knowledge and understanding of Federal payroll tax laws
      • Working knowledge and understanding of State payroll tax laws
      • Ability to communicate effectively with Federal and State tax agencies
      • Working knowledge of payroll systems
      • Ability to resolve payroll discrepancies
      • Ability to electronically transmit payroll data to financial institutions
      • Proficiency in computerized accounting and payroll systems
      • Advanced knowledge of automated time and attendance systems
      • Proficiency in MS Word and Excel
      • Excellent English writing proficiency
      • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language
      • Ability to apply knowledge and make sound judgments
      • Ability to interact effectively with a diverse team member population
      • Ability to perform moderately complex mathematical calculations
      • Ability to present complex concepts in a clear and concise manner
      • Ability to maintain professionalism and composure

      • Record-keeping and organizational skills Desirable:
        
        • Working knowledge of Ceridian payroll software
