Job Purpose:

Manages the day-to-day operations and duties of the convenience store and smoke shop and maintains the facility in good working order on assigned days and during assigned shifts in the absence of the Store Manager

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

(Note: Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at the sole discretion of Sycuan Management at any time)

1. Manages efficiency of convenience store and smoke shop operations at the direction of the Store Manager by routinely reviewing sales volume and transaction counts, scheduling staff to ensure adequate coverage to meet customer demand, assigning duties to staff as needed, monitoring customer service delivery and quality, ensuring team members follow established policies and procedures, providing guidance and direction to staff as needed, communicating pertinent store information to staff in a timely manner, and assisting team members with duties as needed. -

2. Ensures customers receive courteous, efficient and friendly service by remaining present and visible in the store, proactively working with team members to ensure service excellence, practicing, promoting and supporting established service standards, responding to team member and customer inquiries and concerns as they arise, and ensuring store is clean and safe at all times.

3. Manages store inventory and e nsures inventory accuracy and correct merchandise pricing by receiving inventory orders using established procedures, updating product levels and retail/cost pricing in office pricebook application, and following established shelf pricing procedures; by ordering, receiving and counting shipments according to established procedures, examining shipments to ensure merchandise received is correct and undamaged, returning merchandise as needed according to established procedures, ensuring invoice and pricing information is entered into the database accurately and in a timely manner, displaying merchandise in a visually appealing manner to maximize sales potential, requisitioning additional merchandise as inventory and sales levels dictate, maintaining accurate records of shipments, inventories, pricing and related business document, and working with the inventory service-provider to conduct periodic inventory counts and audits and investigate and resolve inventory discrepancies.

4. Manages fuel operations by monitoring daily fuel sales volume, ensuring fuel supplier provides product as needed and at necessary inventory levels, reviewing bills of lading and invoices for accuracy, assuring daily inventory readings and system checks are completed for inventory control and regulatory compliance, monitoring actionable events/alarms, and responding to events/alarms according to established procedures.

5. Maintains a clean and safe facility by reviewing policies, procedures, and regulations, ensuring team members observe regulatory and health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring all areas of the store both internal and external are clean and free of debris, checking machines and equipment routinely to confirm they are in working order, contacting service/repair providers as needed, confirming completion of requested work, reviewing service/repair provider work orders and invoices for accuracy, ensuring required inspections and routine maintenance are conducted in a timely manner and initiating corrective action as needed

6. Provides accounting of store transactions and activities by ensuring cashier stations are opened and closed according to established procedures and transactions are processed accurately, balancing and reconciling cash, credit receipts and sales transactions, reporting unresolved discrepancies to the Store Manager, completing shift reports and paperwork accurately and in a timely manner, maintaining organized filing system for reports and documents, and entering time and attendance information into HR/Payroll system according to established procedures.Reconcile shift, daily, sales and tender type reports, researching and reporting discrepancies, generating designated management and analysis reports, and forwarding reports to the Tribal Accounting Department-

7. Develops team members under the direction of the Store Manager by training new team members, monitoring and evaluating team member performance, providing staff with additional guidance and training as needed, and providing counseling, guidance and corrective action as needed.

8. Assists Store Manager with hiring qualified team members by communicating staffing needs and advertising requirements to the Store Manager.

9. Ensures accurate and timely payment of invoices by verifying invoices reflect actual merchandise/supplies received, entering data into accounting database, and forwarding paperwork to the Tribal Accounting Department for processing.

Education and Experience:

Essential:

  • Associate's Degree in Business, Marketing, Merchandising or related field or equivalent experience
  • 2 years of retail management experience
  • Retail supervisory experience
  • Retail fuel operations experience
  • ServSafe Certification Desirable:
    • Convenience store management experience
    • Deli operations experience Skills and Knowledge:

      Essential:
      • In-depth understanding of rules and procedures applicable in a retail store environment
      • Working knowledge of retail store policies and procedures
      • Working knowledge of retail fuel operations
      • General knowledge of deli operations
      • Ability to interact effectively with customers, team members and vendors

      • Ability to complete forms and documents
      • Ability to perform simple to moderately complex mathematical calculations
      • Ability to read, analyze and interpret financial and sales data
      • Ability to problem solve and make sound decisions

      • Ability to communicate effectively in English
      • Ability to compose written communications to include policies and procedures in English
      • Ability to maintain professionalism and composure
      • Ability to follow verbal directives and written instructions
      • Computer proficiency to include Microsoft Office applications
      • Ability to accept constructive criticism
      • Ability to routinely lift up to 30 pounds
      • Ability to stand and walk for up to eight hours at a time
      • Ability to bend, stoop, push and pull
      • Ability to recognize counterfeit monies
      • Ability to work a variable schedule to include nights, weekends and holidays Desirable:
