Tribal, 2 Kwaaypaay Court, El Cajon, California, United States of America Req #13344 Friday, March 10, 2023 The ancestors of the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation existed many centuries ago as a community of people---a Tribe living together, farming, hunting and fishing to survive.

Much has changed since that time. Today the Sycuan Tribe governs its Reservation, owns and operates a Casino and a Golf Resort, and owns a number of other business ventures in the San Diego Region.

One attribute that remains unchanged, however, is Sycuan's sense of community. Sycuan is more than just a business. Sycuan is a community of people working together toward a common goal. Whether you work in our state-of-the-art Casino, our beautiful Resort, or become a staff member in our Tribal Government division, you will be part of the Sycuan family. Job Purpose:Oversees Cultural Resource Center operations and staff activities.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:(Note: Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at the sole discretion of Sycuan Management at any time)

  • Manages Cultural Resource Center operations by establishing departmental budget, monitoring and controlling expenditures within established guidelines, conducting staff meetings, providing staff with timely information pertinent to department operations, developing and establishing departmental policies and procedures, monitoring staff adherence to departmental and organizational policies and procedures, monitoring staff activities, and providing guidance and direction to staff as needed.
  • Manages all phases of cultural program development by researching program requirements and needs, creating program budgets for Council approval, assigning appropriate staff to implement approved programs, monitoring program implementation activities, ensuring budget allocations are observed, analyzing and evaluating program outcomes, and providing Tribal Council with on-going program updates.
  • Creates and coordinates cultural enrichment programs by recruiting Kumeyaay indigenous instructors for classes, culture nights, programs and camps, coordinating the border crossing program as appropriate, collaborating with Kumeyaay Elders, cultural activities, and assisting with the traditional Kumeyaay gatherings for Sycuan and the Kumeyaay Nation.
  • Develops staff members by establishing performance standards, providing employees with the professional development opportunities, training and resources to perform their jobs effectively, monitoring employee performance, conducting performance appraisals according to established procedures, and providing guidance, counseling and corrective action as needed.
  • Maintains open communication with the Board of Directors of the Kumeyaay Community College in relation to general operations and functions of the KCC campus headquarters. This is not limited to knowledge and awareness of class schedules, special meetings or gatherings as requested or approved by the KCC Board of Directors.Job Specifications:Education and Experience:
    • 3 years of experience working with Kumeyaay people, programs and camps
    • Supervisory experience
      Skills and Knowledge:
      • Thorough understanding of the Kumeyaay culture, history, and customs
      • Working knowledge of Native American culture
      • Ability to speak, read and write in the Kumeyaay language (Desirable not essential)
      • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals
      • Ability to provide leadership and guidance to staff members
      • Ability to prioritize, delegate, and monitor tasks and assignments
      • Ability to conduct effective oral presentations
      • Ability to interact effectively with internal and external contacts
      • Ability to analyze and interpret program and financial data and make sound judgments based on findings
      • Ability to provide clear and concise instructions verbally and in writing
      • Ability to plan and execute operational changes
      • Ability to complete forms and documents
      • Ability to maintain confidentiality
      • Ability to maintain professionalism and composure
