MAJOR FUNCTION

Strategic leadership role to help drive profitable growth of the agricultural irrigation business. Responsibilities include developing key growth sales and profitability strategies, tactics and actions plans. Work with sales and marketing teams to develop sales plans, marketing activities, and sales forecasts. Market awareness to help drive new trends in products and growing practices, and interfacing with marketing and engineering on new product development. Understand trends in growing practices and stay at the forefront of these opportunities to help position Toro as an innovative leader in the agricultural irrigation space. Review and manage customer and market segmentation while building and developing strong, long-lasting customer relationships. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of competitors’ products, programs, and trends.

Develops annual sales forecasts by region, and develops plans to ensure that sales targets are met. Tracks sales performance against goals, makes recommendations and develops plans for continual upgrading of territory performance.

Manages Sales budget; has oversight and responsibility for P&L. Responsible for P&L items including profitability, pricing, co-op funds, volume rebates and freight. Prepares return on investment analysis and justification for new opportunities. Manages aspects of the forecasting process to provide input to marketing and operation planning.

Develops and presents one to five-year sales strategic business plan; coordinates with domestic and international divisions. Coordinates through area business managers and manufacturing operations to ensure production availability to maintain fill rate goals.

Identifies and quantifies critical issues and new opportunities for sales markets; establishes priorities against these items and provides effective guidance for all the support groups (marketing, engineering, manufacturing, distribution, order services, and technical services)

Leads cross-functional teams to provide input into new product development and product improvements based on customer needs and competitor trends.

Participate in the development of a complete product portfolio through internal product development as well as identifying and building relationships with private label and OEM relationships.

Supports area business managers and district sales managers in the customer needs assessment process to ensure that customer feedback is gathered and responded to appropriately. Accompanies outsides sales team on a regularly scheduled basis to provide coaching and further facilitate customer feedback.

Serves as the primary point of contact to develop professional relationships and to resolve day-to-day issues. Responsible for attainment of sales objectives and budget objectives within area of accountability.

Maintains up-to-date knowledge of competitor's product, product changes, and sales and marketing activities to ensure company competitiveness in a changing market.

Responsible for the hiring and management of all outside sales staff to achieve sales and margin objectives in all territories.

JOB DIMENSIONS:

Working Relationships: Reports to the General Manager, Ag Business. Interacts with technical operations on new product development, customer service, operations and corporate communications. Coordinates with vendors, ad agencies.

Decision Making: Ability to support sales staff; analyze marketplace and product positioning for competitive products/pricing to fulfill customer needs.

Identifies opportunities with OEM relationships to current product portfolio.

Requires the level of educational development normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or related field. An MBA is preferred.

A minimum of 7-10 years’ experience is required including field sales and sales program planning. Must have experience with computer systems used to track sales activities in assigned area of responsibility. Supervisory and industry related experience is required.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to lead and train sales reps and to maintain professional working relationships.

Travel requirement up to 40%.

Bilingual English and Spanish strongly preferred.

General office environment. Occasional need to enter the manufacturing area where noise levels may equal or exceed 85 dba. Hearing protection may be required when entering that area. Occasional customer visits including farms and other fields.
