Taylor Guitars is looking for a strong leader with at least eight years of manufacturing experience to lead one of our production departments. Our ideal candidate has a background in woodworking, CNC machinery and has led a team of at least 20 people. Production Department Manager Success Factors:


Within the first 30 days:
• Become familiar with Taylor Guitars manufacturing processes and procedures.
• Develop good working relationships with other production managers and supervisors.
• Establish a working relationship with your team on both shifts in El Cajon.
• Become familiar with our guitar models and series.

 

Within the first 6 months:
• Demonstrate an ability to lead and train the production department on new processes and builds.
• Take responsibility for approvals regarding pay increases, promotions, reprimands, terminations, or other personnel matters.
• Show a complete understanding of the production process and your internal customers.
• Assess tooling, fixtures, material, and any other resource requirements for your department.
• Ensure that minimum parts-per-person goals and standards are met and sustained.


Within the first year:
• Develop new department procedures.
• Establish a highly motivated department with minimal turnover.
• Work with R&D to complete ongoing projects in the department.
• Prove success by coaching, mentoring, and developing direct reports to their maximum potential.


Department: Neck Department
Reports To: Production Manager
Job Status: Full Time
Amount of Travel Required: Occasional travel to Tecate
Positions Supervised: Directly manages supervision staff. Is ultimately responsible for all employees within department.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday D/S: 6:30am-3:00pm N/S: 3:30pm-12:00am (Flexible schedule required)

 

POSITION SUMMARY
The Production Department Manager implements and coordinates manufacturing processes and quality standards within the respective production department. Executes and ensures all processes of materials and manufacturing products are aligned with company standards. Mentors and develops production department supervisors and department leads. Creates a climate where people are motivated to do their best to help the organization achieve its objectives.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
•Manages the production and quality control of the respective department.
•Assesses tooling, fixtures, material, or resource requirements for department.
•Accountable for timely delivery of daily production quota, and removing roadblocks that prohibit the ability to meet quota (e.g. behind guitars, tooling or fixture issues, material/resource shortages).
•Ensures continuous improvement projects are initiated, planned, and implemented successfully.
•Assists with R&D projects ongoing in the department.
•Works to ensure that minimum parts per person goals/standards are met and sustained.
•Accountable for First Pass Yield (FPY) and rework in the department.
•Develops new department procedures.
•Financially responsible and works to increase efficiencies and reduce waste.
•Works with the Purchasing team in regards to quality of material and routine usage audits.
•Coaches Supervisors in the correct decisions and is responsible for the final approval on pay increases, promotions, reprimands, terminations, or other personnel matters.
•Oversees the supervision of personnel within department; reviews appraisals of performance (written by supervisors), and guides Department Supervisors to manage and resolve employee issues.
•Provides regular feedback; recognizing accomplishments and embracing tough conversations when necessary.
•Coaches, mentors, and develops direct reports to maximum potential.
•Works with Human Resources as needed to resolve employee conflicts.
•Ensures employees are trained and adhere to company and departmental procedures.

SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education and Experience: Manufacturing and /or Mechanical Engineering Degree preferred. Five to eight years of Manufacturing experience in managing and leading production within manufacturing. Experience in wood working and/or metal fabrication production processes preferred. Experience with CNC machinery is required.
Computer Skills: Intermediate level working within Excel and Microsoft Office Suite with the ability to learn new software applications.
