seeking a creative and highly motivated scientist to apply
innovative synthetic organic and medicinal chemistry principles and
techniques toward the discovery of medicines in the Neuroscience
Drug Discovery Unit. The successful applicant will perform
laboratory-based synthesis, purification, and characterization
activities for bioactive molecules. Strong laboratory-based focus,
experimental excellence and well-developed communication and
collaboration skills are required for this position. Join Takeda as
a Sr. Research Associate II in our Neuroscience Chemistry team,
based in San Diego, CA.How you will contribute:
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Independently synthesize, purify, and characterize biologically
active molecules with suitable drug-like properties with
efficiency, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Understand, analyze, and interpret structure-activity
relationships based on in vitro biological data, and clearly
communicate SAR to chemistry team members.
- Designs synthetic targets for lead discovery and optimization
to address issues of target potency, selectivity, animal
pharmacokinetics, toxicity, physical property, and in vivo
efficacy
- Acts as member of a multidisciplinary drug discovery project
team, assisting with synthesis and scale-up activities for high
priority lead compounds.
- Maintains a current understanding of the synthetic literature
and methodology, as well as the scientific literature related to a
specific drug discovery project.
- Creates relevant intellectual property for the company and
contributes to patent authorship.
- Keep a well-organized Electronic Lab Notebook DIMENSIONS AND
ASPECTS
- Basic wet lab skills and experience, including synthetic
chemistry reaction set-up, monitoring, and purification.
- Experience with analytical and purification methods such as
NMR, LCMS, HPLC, and silica gel chromatography
- Practical experience in Medicinal Chemistry in either academic
or industrial setting is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Demonstrated ability to solve scientific problems creatively,
effectively, and independentlyMinimum Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor s degree in a scientific discipline (or equivalent)
with 4+ years of experience
- Master's degree in a scientific discipline (or equivalent) with
2+ years of experience PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Exposure to hazardous/toxic/dangerous chemicals and
biohazards.
- Prolonged standing in the laboratory to perform synthetic
organic chemistry.
- Manual dexterity required to operate standard laboratory
equipment (i.e. LCMS, NMR, etc.).
- Carrying, handling, and reaching for objects.What Takeda can
