In this role you will have a direct impact on hiring, employee relations, recognition, performance development, appraisal systems, career/succession planning, and employee development. Position SummaryPerform a wide variety of complex and critical laboratory tests and inspections on products, raw materials and process consumables. Conduct tests and inspections to include, but not limited to mechanical, metallugical, chemical, spectographic, electrical, corrosion and surface roughness. Record and evaluate data. Analyze results and recommend possible improvements to products. Assist and instruct other employees within the laboratory. Recommend laboratory test equipment and facility requirements. Primary Duties and Responsibilities1. Plan and perform a wide variety of complex and critical laboratory tests that are prescribed in job traveler instructions and operation procedures. Use a variety of laboratory instruments to evaluate products, raw materials and process consumables for adherence to company and customer quality standards. 2. Receive and evaluate startup, rework and developmental samples to ensure compliance with company and customer quality standards. 3. Set up and adjust laboratory instruments mechanically and electrically. 4. Prepare, organize and maintain necessary samples, forms, documentation and trend charts in support of the laboratory function. Prepare samples and purchase requisitions for sending samples to outside testing laboratories. Coordinate the training of other employees performing laboratory testing, and ensure tests are conducted in an efficient, effective and safe manner. Resolve complex technical problems for employees. Clean and perform minor maintenance on laboratory equipment such as lubrication and calibration to ensure that instruments are in proper working condition. Participate in training/courses within the NDT and general inspection disciplines. 10. Perform other duties as assigned. Education: High school diploma or equivalent Experience: Complete qualification as a Quality Technician or relevant experience as determined by management. Certification: Refer to "Quality Personnel Qualification Matrix" Knowledge: Knowledge of company quality requirements and manualsKnowledge of the various laboratory testing equipmentKnowledge of the various materials and products manufactured Skills: Written, verbal and listening communication skillsOrganization skillsInterpersonal skillsShop math skills Abilities: Operate required laboratory testing equipment including but not limited to: microscopes, hardness testing equipment and tensile testing machinePerform required tests including but not limited to: tensile, hardness, micro-hardness, flare, bend, nondestructive, chemical and magnetic testingMeasure to close tolerances requiring sensitive touch and judgmentVisually and dimensionally inspect products and parts for defectsOrganize and prioritize work and make appropriate decisionsOperate a computer work station and related hardware and softwareWork in a production oriented environmentWork effectively with customers and company personnelWork under frequently changing prioritiesMaintain mental concentration for entire shift to complete job duties and responsibilitiesTrain and develop othersProvide and accept constructive criticismTravel throughout the plant, and capable of reaching around and over equipment to perform job responsibilitiesLift 50 pounds from floor to waistRead, write, speak the English languageStand while performing duties during the entire work shiftMove and reach around equipment in order to perform job responsibilitiesTravel throughout the plant to perform job duties and responsibilitiesWork under minimal supervisionWork independently and in a team environment "This position requires access to information which is subject to stringent controls under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) or Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
